Sri Lanka ranks among the top ten countries controlling COVID pandemic

Sri Lanka is among the top 10 countries that have successfully handled the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report released by the Lowy Institute of Australia.

Sri Lanka ranked 10th in the Covid Performance Index of almost 100 countries compiled for their successful handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

For a safe world

New Zealand, Vietnam and Taiwan rank the top three in the COVID Performance Index with the United States near the bottom of the index, which tracked six measures of COVID-19 in the 98 countries for which data was available.

Thailand, Cyprus, Rwanda, Iceland, Australia and Latvia were the other countries ranked in the top ten in that order.

Researchers at the Lowy Institute have examined coronavirus-related cases, deaths, and test reports in each country for a period of 36 weeks that followed every country’s hundredth confirmed case of COVID-19, using data available to 9 January 2021.

The Lowy Institute said its index published on Thursday excludes China, where the first cases were identified in December 2019, due to lack of publicly available data.

According to the report, the United States is ranked 94th in COVID Performance Index and neighboring India ranks 86th.
