Independence Day Message by All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama

 The message of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama for the 73rd Independence Day of Sri Lanka

We are commemorating the 73rd Independence Day of our Motherland Sri Lanka, this year. However, as we commemorate the Independence Day, it is very important that we follow the recommended necessary health guidelines with utmost responsibility, in view of the huge challenge before the entire world including Sri Lanka in battling Covid-19.

Our ancestors, with no regard whatsoever to their ethnic or religious identities, shed their sweat and blood and sacrificed their lives to gain independence for our motherland. They succeeded in gaining independence by keeping aside all the differences among them, and their only hope and motive was to live as a united nation in peace. Thus, every community were able to obtain their rights and freedoms, and gave their full contribution and cooperation in seeing the development of the country.

No law-abiding citizen of this country will ever condone or approve of the violence and racial hatred in this independent, free country, which was built upon the strong foundation of unity laid by leaders of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian communities, with no regard being given to ethnic and religious differences.

We, the citizens of this country, should come together to work for the progress and prosperity of the country with unity and understanding among us to preserve our freedom for our future generation.

All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama wishes and prays for the prevaience of unity among all communities in our motherland, for the development of the country and to rise high in the world as a free and independent country, and most of all, to be free from the current challenge of the Coronavirus pandemic plaguing our motherland.
